Big belly and all, I participated in the Susan G Kormen Race For The Cure! It was so amazing. We had put together a team through Sysco, there were about 35 of us who had signed up.

Some of TEAM SYSCO, Susan in front in the pink shirt is a survivor :)
It was one of the most profound events I have ever been a part of. I've have participated in many 5ks, this by far being the most fulfilling. I walked in memory of my 'Aunty Nana', Tupu's mom, who passed away from breast cancer 2 1/2 years ago.

In Memory of Nana Schwenke, we miss and love you!!!
To see the families and friends walking in honor of someone was heartlifting, to see the survivors was even more astonishing. I was only going to walk the 1 mile, but after seeing these brave women who have weathered much more than pregnancy, I walked the entire 5k, looking to them as my motivation. As I looked around me while I walked, I seriously cried probably 4 different times. There were those families holding hands, crying in honor of their Mom finishing the race, or those running for their sister because their sister couldn't run anymore. It was one of the most touching things I have ever witnessed. To see all of those who had passed on, their pictures on shirts, banners, signs, in their honor and those who had been "CANCER FREE FOR 6 YEARS" or that were racing in tribute to THEMSELVES was very humbling. I've never seen so many men wearing PINK BRAS or heard so much talk about BOOBIES!! :)

I was walking behind this couple who I thought were just darling and touched my heart today!! She is a survivor, and her cute hubby was helping her walk. His sign says "Racing in celebration of my beautiful wife of 40 years" That's true love!!!

This picture doesn't do justice, but there were just miles and miles of people.
It was soooo much fun, and next year I definitely want to man a bigger team! For more information, or to make a pledge to breast cancer research you can visit the Susan G Kormen website.

Kassie- I enjoyed walking as well today! I was also inspired by all the ladies and families. True survivors with courage to do so! It was good to see you, which in itself was amazing with 18,000 people and we run into each other. You looked great, and I hope you enjoy your first Mothers Day!
Thats such a wonderful feelings to know that you were able to walk next to survivors and family of those who have cancer or had it at one point. I love that your into those types of marathons!! I went with my family to walk/jog a 5k marathon for our stake in our neighborhood. It was to encourage family & health. To be honest, I got so tired that half way through that I just walked home! I know it sounds bad but my hubby & kids continued on without me. I just got off of work at 7am and they started there marathon @ 8am!!Uugghh.. I wish I had your motivation!!LOL!! Well have a wonderful Mothers day, because technicaly you are already a mother!!!
